The Legacy

In the Early 1900′s, Christoval Texas was the site of one of the most powerful Revival Encampments in the country. Crowds of over 10,000 were reported, and camp revival meetings would go on all summer. People came from across the nation to hear the sermons of Dr. George Washington Truett and other gifted evangelists. The Word of God was Preached, people came, and lives were changed.
On September 17, 1936 a devastating flood washed away the encampment facilities. The Word of God was no longer preached from the shores of the South Concho River.
Over time what was once Holy Ground became a Party Place where people would come from hundreds of miles around to drink and practice unspeakable lewdness and carnality. The very ground on which countless thousands were saved became a haunt for drug deals and debauchery. Men and women of God watched and did nothing.

In 2011 God put it on the hearts of men and women in the community that the riverfront in Christoval should once again be a place of revival, and a place from which the Word of God was boldly proclaimed. The effort began by holding Sunrise Service on the riverfront. Everyone in the community was invited, and all visitors on the riverfront were invited to attend, and “come as you are”. After the service participants were served breakfast burritos and beverages.
Following God’s calling, a group of men and women then formed the Christoval River Ministry, and committed to minister to those in the park for the remainder of the summer. The River Ministry service is held each Saturday between 2:00 and 6:00 PM in Pugh Park. Hot Dogs and fellowship are served from 2:00 to 4:00, and then at 4:00 free barbecue sandwiches are served. Live Gospel Music also begins at 4:00, followed by a powerful message by Brother Clifton Brown.
The River Ministry has grown each week, and has been greatly blessed by God. Each week God has poured out his spirit on those in the park, and incredible life changes have been witnessed. This summer-long ministry is leading up to an Old Time Gospel Revival which will be held at the river August 12-14.
